What is Creative Cocoon Nature School?
Creative Cocoon is a small, home-based, nature-rooted learning program in Saylorsburg, PA, serving families in the Poconos.
Creative Cocoon offers two connected programs:
Creative Cocoon Summer Re-Wilding Program
A child-led outdoor nature play program for ages 3–7.
Creative Cocoon Nature School: Homeschool Enrichment
A seasonal homeschool enrichment program for ages 5–7, designed to support homeschool families during the school year.
Both programs are rooted in outdoor play, seasonal rhythm, art, music, movement, storytelling, sensory exploration, and child-led discovery.
What is the difference between the summer program and the
homeschool enrichment program?
The Creative Cocoon Summer Re-Wilding Program is our summer outdoor nature play program for children ages 3–7. It runs on Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 AM–1:00 PM, July 9– August 28th, 2026.
The Creative Cocoon Nature School: Homeschool Enrichment Program is our school-year offering for children ages 5–7, designed for kindergarten–1st grade homeschool learners. It is offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 9:00 AM–1:00 PM.
The summer program is mostly child-led outdoor play, messy nature exploration, art, music, movement, storytelling, and seasonal wonder.
The school-year homeschool enrichment program includes more gentle lesson-based experiences such as nature studies, early academics, handwork, practical life, storytelling, music, movement, art, and nature journaling.
What does “re-wilding” mean?
At Creative Cocoon, re-wilding means a gentle return to the simple gifts of childhood: mud, water, flowers, sunshine, movement, imagination, and child-led outdoor play.
It does not mean unsafe, extreme, or unsupervised play. It means children are given time, space, and support to reconnect with nature, use their bodies, engage their senses, create freely, and follow their curiosity.

Is Creative Cocoon Nature School a private school or daycare?
No. Creative Cocoon Nature School: Homeschool Enrichment is not a full private school (yet!) , cyber school, umbrella school, or daycare. It is a homeschool enrichment program created to support families who have chosen to homeschool.
Families remain responsible for their child’s legal homeschooling requirements, educational records, required paperwork, and overall homeschool program.
Is Creative Cocoon a home-based program?
Yes. Creative Cocoon is a small, home-based nature program in Saylorsburg, PA. The program is intentionally small, warm, and personal, with a designated outdoor classroom space created just for children’s play, learning, and exploration.
Our primary classroom is outdoors in a separate, fenced yard area with its own outdoor entry. Children do not have open access to roam through the home or the larger property. The outdoor classroom includes defined spaces for nature play, sensory exploration, mud kitchen work, water play, art, storytelling, and child-led discovery.
There are additional nearby outdoor areas, including a grassy play space and a fern-filled nature area we lovingly call the Fern Glen. These areas may be used for supervised nature walks, observation, movement, or special outdoor invitations. Children are always guided and supervised by the primary guide and are not permitted to wander freely or access these areas independently.
What indoor spaces are used?
Although Creative Cocoon is primarily an outdoor program, children have access to indoor spaces when needed.
There is a separate-entry indoor bathroom area connected to the home office/classroom space near the outdoor classroom. This space may also be used for hand washing, bathroom needs, weather breaks, quiet activities, or indoor nature-inspired learning when outdoor conditions are not suitable.
When weather, air quality, heat, storms, or other safety concerns prevent outdoor play, Creative Cocoon may move into designated indoor program spaces. These include a learning space and a child-friendly movement/play space. These areas are separated from the rest of the home and are used intentionally for program activities such as art, storytelling, sensory work, music, movement, quiet play, and indoor gross motor play.
Children do not have open access to the private areas of the home.
How is the outdoor classroom set up?
The outdoor classroom is designed to feel safe, natural, and inviting. It includes a fenced play and learning area with access to open-ended materials and nature-based invitations. Children may explore mud, water, sand, sticks, leaves, stones, pinecones, flowers, loose parts, art materials, books, music, and movement activities.
The classroom is created to support child-led play while still offering clear boundaries, supervision, and gentle guidance.
How are children supervised outdoors?
Children are supervised during all program activities. While Creative Cocoon values freedom, movement, and child-led discovery, children are not left to roam unsupervised.
Outdoor exploration happens within designated areas. Any movement beyond the main outdoor classroom - such as a walk through the Fern Glen, grassy play area, or nearby nature space - is done as a guided group or closely supervised small-group activity.
Are background checks and clearances completed?
Yes. All household members over the age of 18 have completed the required child safety clearances and background checks, including criminal background checks and child abuse clearances.
In Pennsylvania, certain individuals who work or volunteer with children are required to obtain child abuse clearances, and certain individuals are also required to complete FBI criminal history background checks when working or volunteering with children. Pennsylvania notes that these clearances are generally renewed at least every 60 months.
Creative Cocoon follows applicable Pennsylvania safety, clearance, and home-program requirements. Families are welcome to ask questions about safety practices during enrollment.
What safety measures are in place?
Creative Cocoon is designed with children’s safety, comfort, and sense of belonging in mind.
Children are cared for in designated program areas, including the fenced outdoor classroom, supervised outdoor exploration spaces, and separated indoor program spaces when needed. Bathroom access is available through a separate-entry indoor area near the outdoor classroom.
Our outdoor rhythm includes attention to weather, hydration, shade, clothing needs, safe boundaries, hand washing, supervision, and developmentally appropriate risk awareness. Children are encouraged to explore, climb, dig, balance, build, and move, while guides offer support and help children learn how to care for themselves, one another, and the natural world.
Creative Cocoon follows local childcare/home program regulations, weather safety guidelines, and family policies.

What does “homeschool enrichment” mean?
Homeschool enrichment means Creative Cocoon offers meaningful learning experiences that add beauty, rhythm, community, and hands-on discovery to a family’s homeschool life.
Our enrichment days may include outdoor exploration, nature science, storytelling, early math and literacy invitations, art, music, movement, yoga stories, practical life, handwork, seasonal studies, and nature journaling.
This program is meant to support, enrich, and complement the learning already happening at home.
Who is the homeschool enrichment program for?
Creative Cocoon Nature School: Homeschool Enrichment is designed for children ages 5–7, approximately kindergarten–1st grade.
It is a good fit for families looking for a small-group, nature-based enrichment experience that supports social connection, seasonal learning, hands-on exploration, creativity, and gentle early academics.
Who keeps the homeschool records?
Families are the official record keepers for their homeschool students.
Creative Cocoon may provide supportive documentation such as weekly summaries, theme notes, activity descriptions, photos when appropriate, nature journal work, art samples, or portfolio-friendly notes. However, parents or guardians remain responsible for maintaining their child’s homeschool records, logs, portfolios, affidavits or declarations, evaluations, and any required submissions.
In Pennsylvania, the home education supervisor is responsible for submitting the required affidavit or unsworn declaration to the superintendent before beginning a home education program and annually by August 1.
Can Creative Cocoon help with my child’s homeschool portfolio?
Yes, Creative Cocoon can help provide portfolio-friendly experiences and documentation.
Depending on the season and activities, children may create or participate in:
Nature journals , Drawings and watercolor paintings , Handwork or practical life projects, Seasonal art , Storytelling responses , Nature study observations , Math games with natural materials , Early literacy invitations , Music, rhythm, and movement experiences , Science explorations with plants, weather, insects, soil, water, and animals , Collaborative projects , Photos or written summaries of hands-on learning experiences.
In Pennsylvania, the homeschool portfolio includes a log of reading materials, samples of writings, worksheets, workbooks, or creative materials used or developed by the student, and standardized test results in grades 3, 5, and 8 when applicable.
Creative Cocoon does not replace the family’s portfolio responsibilities, but our program can offer rich, meaningful work samples and learning notes that may support a family’s homeschool records.
Will Creative Cocoon complete my child’s homeschool evaluation?
No. Creative Cocoon does not complete homeschool evaluations unless a separate qualified evaluator arrangement has been made outside the program.
Families are responsible for choosing and working with a qualified homeschool evaluator as required by Pennsylvania law. Pennsylvania requires an annual written evaluation by a qualified evaluator to determine whether an appropriate education is occurring.
Creative Cocoon can provide enrichment summaries or examples of work that families may choose to include in their portfolio or share with their evaluator.
Is Creative Cocoon responsible for my child’s required homeschool subjects?
No. Creative Cocoon Nature School: Homeschool Enrichment is an add-on enrichment program.
Families remain responsible for planning, tracking, and fulfilling their homeschool requirements. Creative Cocoon offers nature-based experiences that may support subject areas such as science, art, music, movement, early literacy, early math, storytelling, practical life, and social-emotional growth, but it does not assume responsibility for the child’s full education program.
What subjects might be supported through Creative Cocoon?
Creative Cocoon experiences may support learning in:
Nature science , Weather and seasons , Botany and animals , Earth science , Storytelling and oral language , Early literacy and phonics, Early math and number sense, Art and handwork, Music and rhythm Movement and body awareness, Practical life skills, Social-emotional development, Nature journaling , Observation and inquiry , Fine and gross motor development.
We use hands-on, playful, nature-based learning rather than worksheets whenever possible.
Will my child do worksheets?
Usually, no. Creative Cocoon favors hands-on, developmentally appropriate learning.
Children may use nature journals, chalkboards, sand trays, beeswax crayons, watercolor paints, clay, counting stones, story baskets, loose parts, movement games, songs, and outdoor exploration.
Worksheets are not a primary part of the Creative Cocoon rhythm unless specifically chosen for a special purpose.

What does a typical day look like?
A Creative Cocoon day includes a gentle rhythm of arrival, outdoor play, circle time, seasonal songs or verses, movement, story, nature exploration, open-ended creative invitations, lunch from home, quiet play, and closing circle.
The summer daily rhythm includes arrival and outdoor free play, morning circle, child-led outdoor nature play, an open-ended nature invitation, music/movement/story, lunch from home, quiet nature play, and closing circle.
The homeschool enrichment rhythm is similar, with more emphasis on seasonal studies, storytelling, early academics, handwork, practical life, nature journaling, and gentle main lesson-style activities.
How much time do children spend outside?
As much as possible, weather and safety permitting.
Creative Cocoon is an outdoor-centered program. Children may spend much of the day exploring the outdoor classroom, mud kitchen, water play, sand, loose parts, nature art, story areas, and quiet nature spaces.
When weather, air quality, heat, storms, or other safety concerns make outdoor play unsuitable, we move indoors for nature-inspired play, art, sensory work, storytelling, music, movement, and quiet activities.
Families should follow local childcare/home program regulations, weather safety guidelines, and family policies.
What should my child bring?
A more detailed supply list will be shared with enrolled families and is listed in our parent handbook, but children should generally come prepared for outdoor, messy, seasonal play.
Families may be asked to provide:
-Weather-appropriate clothing
- Extra clothes Closed-toe shoes or outdoor shoes Rain gear when needed
-A labeled water bottle Lunch and snack from home
- Sun hat or warm hat depending on season
-Sunscreen or bug spray according to family preference and program policy
-A backpack or tote for belongings
Creative Cocoon is a place where children may get muddy, wet, sandy, painted, or leafy. Mess is part of the learning!
Do families provide food?
Yes. Families provide their child’s lunch and snacks from home.
Creative Cocoon includes mealtime rhythms such as hand washing, gratitude, quiet conversation, self-help skills, and clean-up routines, but families are responsible for packing food that meets their child’s needs.
Is the program child-led?
Yes. Creative Cocoon values child-led play and discovery.
Teachers prepare a safe, beautiful, inviting environment with seasonal materials and meaningful invitations, but children are given room to explore, imagine, build, observe, create, and follow their curiosity.
In the homeschool enrichment program, child-led play is gently balanced with teacher-guided experiences such as circle time, stories, songs, nature studies, handwork, practical life, and early academics.
Is this program Waldorf or Montessori?
Creative Cocoon is inspired by gentle, holistic early childhood approaches, including Waldorf-inspired rhythm, Montessori-inspired hands-on learning, Nature schooling, Forest school, and child-led play.
However, Creative Cocoon is its own independent program and is not formally affiliated with Waldorf, Montessori, Forest School or any particular educational organization.
Is this a religious program?
No. Creative Cocoon is not a religious program.
Our work is rooted in nature, creativity, community, storytelling, music, movement, seasonal connection, and a deep respect for the living world. Children are invited to experience themselves as part of nature — children of the forest, water, mountains, gardens, and sky — with a growing sense of wonder, belonging, and care for the earth.
At Creative Cocoon, we believe childhood is not something to rush through. It is a meaningful, beautiful season of life, full of imagination, sensitivity, curiosity, movement, and discovery. This program was created to offer children the kind of gentle, grounding, nature-connected space that many of us needed when we were young.
Yoga, breathwork, and body awareness are offered in child-friendly ways focused on feelings, calm, imagination, nature, movement, and self-awareness. Families of all backgrounds are welcome.

Where are you located?
Creative Cocoon is located in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, serving families in the Poconos and surrounding areas.
Do you offer sibling discounts?
Yes. Creative Cocoon is happy to offer a sibling discount for families enrolling more than one child.
Tuition is $40/day for the first child and $35/day for each additional sibling enrolled on the same day.
Do you offer afternoon workshops?
Throughout the year, Creative Cocoon may offer optional workshops that allow children and families to explore seasonal skills, creativity, and nature connection in greater depth. Workshop topics will vary throughout the seasons and may include plant and tree identification, foraging education, bushcraft skills, weaving, baking, gardening, nature-inspired handwork, woodworking, herbal crafts, and other practical life experiences rooted in the natural world.
Workshops may also feature nature art, storytelling, living books, quiet outdoor exploration, drawing, nature journaling, seasonal crafts, sensory experiences, music and movement, open-ended creative projects, or calm indoor, nature-inspired activities when appropriate.
Each workshop is thoughtfully designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence, develop practical skills, and foster a deeper appreciation for the beauty and rhythms of the natural world. Workshop offerings may be available for enrolled students, families, or the broader community, depending on the event.

Important legal note for homeschool families
Creative Cocoon Nature School: Homeschool Enrichment is a supplemental enrichment program and does not provide legal advice, official homeschool supervision, required recordkeeping, evaluations, or full-time compulsory education services.
Parents or legal guardians are responsible for understanding and following Pennsylvania homeschool law and any requirements from their local school district. Families should consult the Pennsylvania Department of Education, their district homeschool office, a qualified homeschool evaluator, or a legal professional for questions about compliance.
Pennsylvania’s Department of Education explains that home education programs require a supervisor to submit a notarized affidavit or unsworn declaration before beginning and annually by August 1, and Pennsylvania law also includes portfolio and evaluation requirements.
